How to Use Dolphinmed DL8 Lab Anesthesia Machine

1. Gas source connection(Air pump

    When the anesthesia machine is connected to the air pump, one end of the hose connected to the air pump outlet, and the other end connected to the anesthesia machine gas inlet. As shown in the figure below:

2. Connection of anesthesia chamber

    The chamber pipeline adopts a coaxial pipeline. The inner tube is connected to the inner hole of the Chamber interface, and then the outer tube (plastic threaded tube) is put on the outer ring of the interface. The anesthetic gas will be output to the induction box through the inner tube. 2 hoses are connected to the gas inlet and outlet of the induction box.Excess exhasut gas will be discharged through the area between the threaded tube and the  inner tube.

3. Connection of mask and exhaust gas tank

Use the plastic threaded pipe to connect the exhasut gas tank to exhaust gas ptort of anesthesia machine. Note: This tank is reusable.  only need to replace the activated carbon in it regularly. Change after each bottle of anesthetic is used up

When connecting the mask, first connect the inner tube to the mask , and then connect the outer threaded pipe to the mask interface of anesthesia machine.

4.Steps to use

4.1 Pouring and discharging anesthetics

    

During the use of the anesthesia machine, specific anesthetic reagents should be injected according to the specific vaporizer. 

Do not mix anesthetic reagents or use anesthetic reagents that are different from those required by the vaporizer, otherwise the output concentration will be incorrect.

Injecting anesthetic reagents: Before adding anesthetic reagents, make sure that the anesthesia machine is in a non-ventilated state and the vaporizer is in a closed state.

 Add anesthetic reagents from the dosing port, rotate the sealing nut counterclockwise, remove the nut, slowly inject the anesthetic reagent into the vaporizer, 

and observe the amount of added liquid through the liquid surface window. During the filling process, the vaporizer must be kept in a vertical position. 

Do not add reagents above the upper scale line of the window, nor below the lower scale line. Otherwise, it will affect the output concentration.

When the anesthetic  is added for the first time, the interior of the vaporizer is in a dry cavity state. The anesthetic interface can only be clearly displayed on window after it is completely infiltrated.


4.2  Flowmeter setting


After turn on the air pump, setting the flow meter by turning  knob counterclockwise, and let the float stay on the required flow rate indication 

Recommended gas flow  range: 


For induction anesthesia is 1-1.5L/min, which can be adjusted appropriately according to the size of the anesthesia chamber;


For maintaining anesthesia (for mask): Big mice generally 500-700ml/min, and little mice are generally adjusted to 300-500ml/min; 


The required gas flow depends on the type, weight and state of the animal, which can be determined by a preliminary experiment before the formal experiment.


4.3 Anetshesia concentration setting for animal

Induction anesthesia concentration range(Chamber): 3%-5% (adjusted appropriately according to the animal's condition); 

quickly put the animal into the anesthesia chamber, and wait for the animal to be fully anesthetized (this process will take  about 2 minutes).


Maintenance anesthesia concentration range(Mask): For big mice is 2%-2.5%, 

                                                                                          For little mice is 1%-1.5% (adjust appropriately according to the animal's condition).


4.4 Switch for Mask and Chamber

When inducing anesthesia , turn the switch to Chamber, and when maintaining anesthesia, turn the switch to Mask.

The O2 flush is used to quickly flush out a large amount of high-concentration anesthetic gas in the chamber after the anesthesia induction finished. When using it, gently press the button for about 10 seconds. It is recommended to use this function before opening the cover of the chamber.


5.End of experiment


After the animal experiment is completed, please follow next steps to turn off the lab anesthesia machine


(1) Off the anesthesia vaporizer: rotate the dial clockwise to align the "▼" with the "▲" mark below. 


(2) Off the gas source: air pump---just turn off the switch and disconnect the power supply.


(3) Off the flow meter: turn the flow regulating knob clockwise. If it cannot be turned (do not use strong force), it is closed 


Finally,  use tap water (or soapy water) and a soft damp cloth to clean the anesthesia induction box, operating table, etc. (metal parts can be scrubbed with alcohol, 

but the anesthesia induction box is made of plexiglass, so do not use alcohol or other organic solvents to wipe it).
